Better container storage support and more are coming to OpenShift.

In yet another move toward fulfilling its promise to be the leader in the hybrid cloud market, Red Hat has released the latest iteration of the OpenShift Kubernetes platform.
This new release of OpenShift (4.3) is based on the Kubernetes 1.16 platform, and builds on the developer-centric release of OpenShift 4.2. OpenShift 4.3 focuses primarily on security and does so by bringing FIPS-compliant encryption (FIPS 140-2, Level 1) to Red Hat’s Kubernetes implementation. This addition will be especially useful for US government agencies that require FIPS validated cryptography to encrypt sensitive data.
The new release of OpenShift also supports etcd encryption, which encrypts secrets at rest to prevent malicious actors from gaining access to locally stored secrets and configuration maps.

Other features found in OpenShift 4.3 include:

  • Network-Bound Disk Encryption can now be used to automate remote enablement of LUKS encrypted volumes.
  • Clusters can now be deployed to customer-managed VPNs, VPCs (Virtual Private Clouds), and AWS/Azure/Google Cloud Platform subnets.
  • Support for disconnected installs.
  • A new cipher configuration API to assist teams adhere to company security and networking standards.
  • Automated health checking and remediation.
  • Support for Kubernetes operators.
