Red Hat Announces Commercial OpenShift PaaS

New service will compete with Azure, Heroku, and other cloud-based application platforms.

Red Hat has announced that the company's OpenShift Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) tool is officially open for paying corporate customers. OpenShift has already seen action as an enterprise-based cloud tool, and it released as an open source project in May 2012.

The idea behind PaaS solution such as OpenShift is that the developer just writes the code and the vendor (in this case, Red Hat) provides a complete execution environment running in the cloud to minimize development and operations overhead. The commercial version of OpenShift supports Java, Ruby, PHP, Python, Node.js, and Perl.
