ISC’12 Previews Technical Program

The International Supercomputing Conference (ISC’12) will be held June 17-21 in Hamburg and is expected to draw 2,400 attendees from around the world. An estimated 160 leading organizations will showcase their products and research in the ISC exhibition.

The conference committee has released a preview of the exascale-focused technical program, featuring the following sessions:

• Gerhard Wellein of the Erlangen Regional Computing Center will chair a session on “Application Performance: Lessons Learned from Petascale Computing.” Speakers will include Georg Hager, Erlangen Regional Computing Center; John Shalf, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory; Jack Dongarra, University of Tennessee; and Motoi Okuda, Fujitsu.
• Horst Simon of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory will host an “Exascale Chat” along with Mark Seager, Intel, USA; Yutong Lu, National University of Defense Technology, China; and Mateo Valero, Barcelona Supercomputing Center, Spain.
• Thomas Sterling of Indiana University will chair a session on “Exascale Computing: Where Are We?” Speakers include: William Harrod, U.S. Dept. of Energy; Philippe Ricoux of TOTAL Group; Yutaka Ishikawa, University of Tokyo and RIKEN AICS; and Michael Resch, High Performance Computing Center, Stuttgart.
• Estela Suarez of the Jülich Supercomputing Center will chair a special session on “The European Way to Exascale – Presentation of the EU Funded Exascale Projects.” Speakers will describe projects at the University of Edinburgh, the University of Heidelberg and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya/Barcelona Supercomputing Center.
