Comparing PowerShell and Python

Language Duel

Conclusions

In this article, we provided some insights into the options of the two scripting languages. Both have their strengths and their justifications for use. Consequently, it will rarely be an either-or decision, in our opinion. If you mainly, or even exclusively, work with Windows systems and want to manage and support them, PowerShell is a tool that is perfectly suited to automating the administration of Windows machines. Continuous expansion, thanks to new cmdlets, which become available with each new operating system release, are made available for many applications, which helps make life easier.

Administrators who need to support Unix/Linux systems on their networks – and therefore want to write and maintain scripts that can be used across platform boundaries – should definitely take a look at Python. The large number of libraries available for Python is another strong argument for the use of this language. Finally, the clarity of the language speaks for itself: Anyone who has ever worked with other programming languages, such as C, will find their way quickly and easily around well-structured Python syntax.
