AlmaLinux Adds Support for Devices Deprecated by Red Hat

The distro is no longer a line-by-line copy of RHEL.

AlmaLinux has returned support for many devices no longer supported by Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) in the most recent beta releases, reports Christine Hall.

AlmaLinux Foundation chairperson benny Vasquez says, “we’re re-adding support for a ton of old hardware that Red Hat has previously deprecated support for.”

The foundation branched out last summer when it decided that AlmaLinux would no longer be a line-by-line copy of RHEL while still offering the same functionality, Hall explains. Other advantages of this move were seen recently when the distro patched a security hole that Red Hat had chosen not to fix.
