3D-Printed Data Center Constructed in 140 Hours

Rapid construction method offers new possibilities to the industry.

A new data center in Heidelberg, Germany is also Europe’s largest 3D-printed building, reports Srishti Mitra.

The 3D-printing process for the external structure of the Wave House, a new data center designed for an urban location, took around 140 hours. Other elements, like roof, lighting, and wiring, then needed to be added by traditional methods.

The distinctive wave pattern adds “an element of style and personality to the rather mundane arena of cloud-computing infrastructure,” says Mitra. And, the rapid construction method offers new possibilities for the industry.
