SUSE Announces New SUSE Linux Enterprise Micro 5.2

By

From the makers of SUSE Enterprise Linux comes a new release of their lightweight and secure platform built for containerized and virtual workloads.

With more and more businesses looking to replace legacy systems with more agile and flexible platforms, they're finding it necessary to lean on operating systems geared specifically for the task. SLE Micro is purpose-built for use-cases such as single-node container hosts, Kubernetes cluster nodes, and single-node KVM virtualization hosts (or in a public cloud). SLE Micro is easy to customize, configure, update, and automate.

This latest release of SLE Micro introduces a self-install image, which is a bootable, pre-configured image that installs to a target system and uses the same configuration methods built into the existing images. The aim of this new feature is to further reduce time to deploy.

Users will also find new Cockpit modules, specifically geared for web-based administration to enhance the configuration and administration of SLE Micro.

Ottmar Amann, Software Systems, Corporate R&D, KRONES AG, said of SLE Micro, "With a decentralized approach, we are reducing operational expenses and modernizing application infrastructure by moving applications running on bare metal to a fully managed containerized stack using K3S and SLE Micro.”

Find out more about SLE Micro on the official SUSE announcement page and download an evaluation ISO from the downloads page.
