Docker Desktop Comes to Linux

By

Docker has released an official version of Docker Desktop for the Linux operating system.

If you're a container developer, your go-to tool is Docker, and your operating system of choice is Linux, then you're in for a treat as the company has released its desktop application for the open source operating system.

For those that don't know, Docker Desktop is a GUI application that makes it easy to build and share containerized applications. Docker Desktop includes Kubernetes, Docker Compose, BuildKit, vulnerability scanning, Docker Hub integration, and more. If you've been looking for the ideal Docker UI that is not web-based, Docker Desktop is ready.

According to Chris McLellan, senior product manager, Docker, "As we rapidly add value to Docker Desktop, it’s really important to us that the Linux community can benefit." McLellan added, "That said, developers who are happy using Docker Engine on Linux can, of course, keep doing so! Desktop for Linux just ensures that Linux developers can leverage all of the exciting new functionality being built into Docker Desktop without having to compromise on their existing CLI-based workflows."

Docker Desktop can be installed and used for free. To install Docker Desktop, download either the DEB or RPM file from the official site and install as you would any application.
