Amazon Web Services announces Amazon DynamoDB NoSQL database service.

Amazon Web Services has announced Amazon DynamoDB (beta), a fully managed NoSQL database service that provides fast and predictable performance with seamless scalability. According to the announcement, customers can launch a new Amazon DynamoDB database table with just a few clicks in the AWS Management Console.

According to the website, Amazon DynamoDB allows developers to create a database table that can store and retrieve any amount of data and serve any level of request traffic. DynamoDB spreads the data and traffic across a sufficient number of servers to handle the request capacity and maintain performance. All data items are stored on solid state drives and are automatically replicated across multiple “Availability Zones.”

Amazon DynamoDB also integrates with Amazon Elastic MapReduce, which allows businesses to perform complex analytics of large datasets using a hosted pay-as-you-go Hadoop framework on AWS. When you create or update your Amazon DynamoDB table, you specify how much capacity you want to reserve for reads and writes. Amazon DynamoDB will allocate the required resources, and you pay a flat, hourly rate based on the capacity you reserve. For details, see http://aws.amazon.com/dynamodb/.
