New system will provide cloud-based HPC for research institutions.

Dell has reportedly signed an agreement to provide a 3,200-core HPC system for the Australian National Computational Infrastructure (NCI). The system will deliver cloud-based HPC computing on-demand for Australian research institutions, who will use the new cycles to study climate change, geosciences, and environmental problems.

OpenStack will facilitate the cloud environment; system hardware includes Intel CPUs, high-performance Intel SSDs, and 55Gbps Mellanox Ethernet interconnect.
