Python Named Programming Language of 2024 by TIOBE
TIOBE has named Python as the programming language of 2024 – based on the highest increase in ratings in the past year.
“Python gained a whopping 9.3% in 2024,” says Paul Jansen, TIOBE CEO, which is far more than its competitors, including Java, JavaScript, and Go. “Python is everywhere nowadays, and it is the undisputed default language of choice in many fields,” he says.
The latest list also shows C being surpassed by both C++ and Java, and PHP dropping out of the top 10. Overall, the top languages for 2024 (with rankings based on the number of skilled engineers worldwide, training courses, and third-party vendors) are:
- Python 23.28% (+9.32% change)
- C++ 10.29% (+0.33%)
- Java 10.15% (+2.28%)
- C 8.86% (-2.59%)
- C# 4.45% (-2.71%)
- JavaScript 4.20% (+1.43%)
- Go 2.61% (+1.24%)
- SQL 2.41% (+0.95%)
- Visual Basic 2.37% (+0.77%)
- Fortran 2.04% (+0.94%)
