AI/ML Tool Usage Increased 3000% in 2024, Says Zscaler Report
Enterprise AI/ML tool usage increased by more than 3000% in the past year, according to a new report from Zscaler ThreatLabz.
The Zscaler ThreatLabz 2025 AI Security Report analyzed 536.5 billion transactions from AI/ML applications observed in the Zscaler Zero Trust Exchange cloud platform from February 2024 to December 2024 and examined related security considerations.
According to the report:
- There were 3,464.6% more transactions year-over-year from 800+ AI/ML applications in the Zscaler cloud from February 2024 to December 2024.
- AI/ML activity peaked in July, with 82.7 billion transactions.
- ChatGPT accounted for nearly half (45.2%) of all AI/ML transactions.
- A total of 3624TB of data was transferred by AI/ML applications.
- The top five countries generating the most AI/ML transactions are the United States, India, United Kingdom, Germany, and Japan.
Enterprises also blocked 59.9% of all AI/ML transactions, Zscaler says, which indicates “awareness around the potential risks associated with AI/ML tools, including data leakage, unauthorized access, and compliance violations.” ChatGPT was the most blocked AI application, followed by Grammarly and Microsoft Copilot.
