Tokutek Announces TokuDB 6.5
TokuDB v6.5 is driven by Tokutek’s proprietary Fractal Tree indexes, a new data structure that performs up to two orders of magnitude faster than traditional B-Tree technology. The company states that TokuDB v6.5 delivers superlative read/write characteristics that intelligently aggregate and rebalance indexed data.
According to the announcement, TokuDB delivers 10x compression without any performance degradation. And, hot column capability lets admins add/drop/change a column to a database without taking the database offline.
Additionally, TokuDB’s Fractal Tree indexing writes fewer, larger blocks, which reduces the overall wear and more efficiently utilizes the Flash Translation Layer to extend the life of flash memory. The indexes expand database capacity with huge insertion rates and greater scalability. Thus, according to the company, the database is ideal for applications that must simultaneously query and update large volumes of rapidly arriving data (e.g., clickstream analytics).
TokuDB is fully compatible with MySQL and MariaDB; allowing MySQL and MariaDB to scale from gigabytes to terabytes and providing improved query performance, excellent compression, and online schema flexibility.
